Qtranslate, the ultimate plugin for localizing wordpress
June 5th, 2008 |The first post of this new blog will be dedicated to whom has partly contributed to its realization. How? Having a blog completely bilingual and using a plugin for completely localizing wordpress in one or more languages, or if you prefer, for creating a really effective wordpress multilingual blog.
I’ve tried some plugins: Babel, Polyglot, Jlanguage, but sometimes there were layout problems, in other cases only posts or menu were correctly localized.
With Qtranslate everything was completely simple and fast:
1) download qtranslate , extract all files and upload everything (keeping the directory structure) to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
2) download the .mo file for every language you want to localize your blog (in my case only in english, since using the italian version of wordpress, the italian .mo file was already present … )
3) activate qtranslate in Plugins menu, go to the qTranslate Configuration Page and add/delete/disable any languages you need.
Finally add the qtranslate widget anywhere inside your sidebar (doing this, you will be able to see on the sidebar respectively: flags only, flags and textual link or the textual link only)
As you can see from the image above, everything is extremely easy: when you’ll write a post you’ll find two title bars, one in English and another in Italian. As regards the post body, you’ll find two tabs (an “english” one and an “italian” ) that you’ll select when you’ll write your text in English and in Italian.
